Shadow articuno

The end date above isn’t confirmed

It appears that after a few months of rest, Giovanni and his Grunts are up to no good once again! What’s worse, they’ve obtained more Shadow Pokémon—including Shadow Legendary Pokémon! Early investigations into Giovanni’s movements suggest he’ll be using these Shadow Legendary Pokémon at different times.

  • March 2021: Shadow Articuno
  • April 2021: Shadow Zapdos
  • May 2021: Shadow Moltres

Starting on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at 12:00 a.m. local time, play through this Season’s new Team GO Rocket Special Research to earn a Super Rocket Radar and take down Giovanni! There will be other opportunities to earn Super Rocket Radars at the beginning of each month this Season, so stay tuned for more information!

Get Shadow Articuno Before It's Gone In Pokémon GO

Posted on by Theo Dwyer

Time is running out for Shadow Articuno in Pokémon GO. Starting April 1st, 2021 at 12 AM, encounters with the Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni will reward Shadow Zapdos encounters rather than Shadow Articuno encounters. This remains true even if you're near the end of your Team GO Rocket Special Research. This Research rewards a Super Rocket Radar rather than an encounter, so any battles earned with Giovanni, even if it's through March's questline, will lead to a Shadow Zapdos starting on April 1st, so if you want Shadow Articuno, the time to act is now!

Interesting, a quote from the official Pokémon GO blog suggests that, for the first time ever, April 2021's Team GO Rocket Research will be Timed Research rather than Special Research. Niantic posted:

This month, Giovanni will have Shadow Zapdos in his grasp! If you haven't already, complete the latest Team GO Rocket Special Research, The Higher They Fly…, to earn a Super Rocket Radar. This will help you track down the Team GO Rocket Boss and save Shadow Zapdos! You can also receive a Super Rocket Radar from Timed Research that'll be available during the first week of April.

PVE Movesets Grades

PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

  • Frost Breath is marginally better than Ice Shard, though the two are very close.

  • Blizzard is on par with Ice Beam. Ice Beam has the advantage of being a 2-bar move, but its long animation time keeps it even with Blizzard.

  • Icy Wind's low damage and long animation time (even longer than Blizzard) prevent it from being useful.
  • Hurricane offers no synergy with Ice-type moves but has stronger DPS than Icy Wind.
  • Ancient Power has no use on Articuno.
  • Return is basically worthless.

PVE Overview

Shadow Articuno doesn't have much to its name. As a defensive Pokemon primarily, it ends up losing more power than it gains, and doesn't gain enough DPS to be worth using in raids.
