2015 BMW 7 Series - Hair raising ride

2015 BMW 750iL is a sexy ride with responsive handling. The twin-turbo, 4.4-Liter V-8 makes 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, and these models can charge to 60 mph in an automaker-cited 4.7 Seconds. The 760Li might sound like one of the performance leaders of the group—and it is, with 537 hp from its twin-turbo V-12--but it's the portly one in the lineup. The true athlete here is the performance-focused Alpina B7, which has a special version of the V-8 underhood that makes 540 horsepower and 538 pound-feet. In addition to that, you get a suspension that's firmer than any of the other models can manage in Sport mode, as well as bigger brakes, and other enhancements. The 0-60 mph time is just 4.5 Seconds here. The all-new 740Ld xDrive is powered by a 3.0-Liter turbo-diesel inline six, capa... (more)

2015 BMW 7 Series - It's absolutely great and reliable.

My BMW 750 is absolutely great. The exterior is well sculpted like it was stone, and the paint is always bright, and it's as beautiful as the leather soft touch interior. All gauges are bright and readable at any point of the day. It could use some more foot room, but it's sufficient. Driving and acceleration are first class; I'm passing just about everyone any time I step on the throttle.

A fun memory was when me and my son drove up to Orlando, and we went to island of adventure theme park. The drive up was fairly comfortable in the driver and passenger seats. Also, the air conditioner was ice cold the entire trip.

The top positive things about this vehicle were the engine and its performance and the lovely interior. Acceleration on this vehicle is absolutely great, no hiccups, and there's a ton of power throughout the entire rpm band. The interior is also beautiful: all the leather is high quality and very supportive.

Then only negative is that I'm a big guy, so I would like to have more leg room. Also, some headroom would be nice as well and also some more cup holders.

CARFAX — Your Vehicle History Expert

Sometimes what you don't know can't hurt you, but that's not the case when buying a used car. As an independent vehicle history provider, at CARFAX we've made it our mission to tell you everything you need to know by uncovering as many events as possible from the previous life of a used car. Our primary goal is to help you get to know your next car from the inside out before deciding to make an investment that will be part of you and your family's everyday life. We believe your next car shouldn't be hiding anything from you.

CARFAX Vehicle History Reports contain over 28 billion historical records from 20 European countries, the US and Canada, which are updated daily with new information.

Even if you live in a country we don't collect vehicle data from, it's still always worth checking the Vehicle Identification Number without obligation. The used car import and export market is booming and many owners would be surprised to find out exactly what happened to their vehicle during its previous life abroad.

Privacy for Customers — Transparency over Vehicles

Let's be clear: Although we strive to find every detail of a vehicle's life so far, we are focused only on the vehicle's history, and do not collect any information on previous owners. The information we provide relates solely to the vehicle, its odometer reading, any accidents that have been covered up, where the vehicle comes from and much more — it never gets personal. We've uncovered irreparable damage several times in the past, but other times our vehicle history checks draw a blank — and sometimes that's actually a good thing.

Second Hand — Not Second Best

Did you know that considerably more used cars are sold than new cars? We think this second-hand system is nothing short of fantastic. However, it goes without saying that it gives rise to different methods and tactics: Some sellers will disguise a car that's been in an accident under a fresh coat of paint, tamper with the odometer or conceal theft. This is one of the less appealing aspects of buying second hand. Our goal is to establish trusting relationships between buyers and sellers, since this is the best way to help customers make the right decision. Your new car should be reliable and make you feel safe, as well as make you feel like you haven't paid too much.

But more than anything else, we don't want you or your family unknowingly sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle that isn't 100% safe. This is why we strive to take these vehicles off the road, which not only makes the used car market safer but our streets safer too.

CARFAX — 35+ Years of Experience in Vehicle Histories

CARFAX was founded in the US in 1984 and expanded into Europe in 2007. Around 100 team members spread across six European offices process vehicle information from 22 countries.

Fostering strategic partnerships with registration authorities, law enforcement agencies, government departments, insurance companies, inspection centers and numerous other leading companies around the world has enabled us to compile a unique international database for vehicle histories. We use this database to help make the used car market more transparent. We give everyone in the process of buying a used car access to what is currently the world's most comprehensive source for vehicle history reports, and is growing day by day.

We remain neutral and independent despite our partnerships — our sole purpose is help customers make an informed choice and ensure their safety and the safety of their family. This includes never collecting any personal details — we do not accept any PII from data sources amongst the information we provide about a vehicle. We ensure that data protection laws are observed at all times. Furthermore, we always collect our data in compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks — in all the countries in which we are active. We expressly distance ourselves from illegal activities such as data theft, scraping and hacking.

The 2015 BMW 7 Series adds a 740Ld xDrive model, a diesel-powered sedan only offered with a long wheelbase and all-wheel drive. All variants gain standard Bluetooth hands-free and USB audio connection, and BMW Online and BMW Apps. 750 models gain a standard leather dashboard, full LED headlights and automatic high beams. Enhanced USB and Bluetooth plus Smartphone Integration are now a $500 standalone option. The price of Night Vision has been dropped to $2,300 from $2,600. New optional 19-inch wheels are added to the 740 models and Alpina B7 variants however the set for the latter comes with all-season tires, which lowers the car's maximum speed to 130 mph.

The 2015 BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan available in rear- or all-wheel-drive and in short- or long-wheelbase variants. It is also available as a diesel, hybrid, and high-performance Alpina B7 model.

EPA-Rated Fuel Economy: 17/25 mpg (750i), 16/25 mpg (750Li), 16/24 mpg (750i xDrive/ 750Li xDrive)

Model: 760Li
Engine and Transmission: Twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 - eight-speed automatic
Power: 535 hp/550 lb-ft
EPA-Rated Fuel Economy: 13/20 mpg

Model: ActiveHybrid 7
Engine and Transmission: Turbocharged 3.0-liter hybrid I-6 - eight-speed automatic
Power: 350 hp/370 lb-ft
EPA-Rated Fuel Economy: 22/30 mpg

Model: Alpina B7, Alpina B7 long wheelbase, Alpina B7 xDrive, Alpina B7 long wheelbase xDrive
Engine and Transmission: Twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 - eight-speed automatic
Power: 540 hp/538 lb-ft
EPA-Rated fuel Economy: 16/25 mpg (Alpina B7/Alpina B7 long wheelbase), 16/24 mpg (Alpina B7 xDrive/Alpina B7 long wheelbase xDrive).

All engines provide excellent acceleration for passing and merging maneuvers, particularly the two V-8s and V-12, which put straight-line performance on par with high-performance sports cars. Driving dynamics are also a strong point in all 7 Series variants with the handling that belies that car's size and exterior dimensions, making it engaging to drive. Additionally, refinement remains excellent, with little NVH and a comfortable ride that makes the car ideal for long-distance driving even with its performance-spec tires. However, its suspension, while tuned well, isn't up to the task of aggressive driving through twisty roads, with the car's rear moving around too much when the driver throws it around corners quickly.

Interior refinement is impeccable in the 2015 7 Series, with low levels of exterior noise and road imperfections entering the cabin. Space for passengers is generous up front and in the rear in both regular and long wheelbase models. Additionally, the available multi-contour front seats have a plethora of adjustments that allows drivers to find an ideal position. The front seats, however, are not meant ideal for spirited drives through canyon roads since they don't have enough support to keep the driver in place due to the flat seat bottoms.

The available Driver Assistance Plus package adds blind spot warning, side and top view cameras, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and the Active Driving Assistant, a host of safety aids that includes lane departure warning and automatic front emergency braking. The features included in the Driver Assistance Plus package are standard in the 760Li except for adaptive cruise control. Adding the standalone adaptive cruise control option also adds the Active Driving Assistant.

Despite its age, the 2015 BMW 7 Series remains an excellent full-size luxury sedan with a spacious cabin, high levels of refinement, and engaging driving dynamics. In a comparison test among seven entry-level full-size luxury sedans, the 740 won because of its generous interior space, comfortable seats, impressive technology and excellent powertrain.

Additionally, we noted in a 2010 First Test of a 760Li that even with the car's handling prowess, it doesn't sacrifice refinement with "NVH that is nearly nonexistent" despite the car being equipped with run-flat performance tires. Technology is also impressive with a large screen, an updated iDrive infotainment system with controls that are easier to use, and an available 16-speaker sound system from Bang & Olufsen. Where the car falls short of its performance heritage is in the chassis -- we noted in a 2013 First Test review that the air suspension can't keep up with spirited driving, causing the rear end to move around too much. Furthermore, the front seats have a flat bottom that causes the driver to slide everywhere when cornering briskly.
